Dr. Ruby Hale was born and raised in Shippensburg, PA, where her early life on a farm influenced her career path. Growing up, she was involved in raising and showing livestock through 4-H and FFA. This hands-on experience instilled in her a passion for animal health and management.

Ruby attended North Carolina State University, where she majored in Animal Science with a concentration in veterinary medicine. During her undergraduate years she studied Nutrition and Biotechnology and graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2018. Ruby's dedication and hard work were recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Global Perspective Certificate, University Scholars Program, College of Life Sciences Undergraduate Research Senior Award, College of Life Sciences Honors, and the American Society of Animal Science Southern Section’s Undergraduate Winner. Additionally, she was a finalist for the National FFA Diversity Livestock Proficiency and earned the prestigious FFA American Degree.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Ruby pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2024. During her time at veterinary school, she received several notable recognitions, such as the SAVMA Senior Veterinary Student Outstanding Patient Care Awards (NBC) in April 2024, the AVMA Zoetis Award Scholarship in April 2022, and the AHVMA Student Education Grant in October 2021.

During her veterinary school, she gained valuable experience working at a small animal general practice and a small animal emergency hospital.

Dr. Hale joined Cape Veterinary Hospital in June, 2024. She has a keen interest in Mixed General Practice and holistic veterinary medicine. Her professional affiliations include memberships in the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners.

For Ruby, the most satisfying aspect of being a veterinarian is the ability to give a voice to animals who cannot speak for themselves. She takes pride in using her medical training and clinical skills to diagnose and treat her patients. Additionally, Ruby is dedicated to preventive care and enjoys working closely with families to ensure their pets receive the best possible care tailored to their unique needs and circumstances.

Outside of her professional life, Ruby enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She is also a devoted pet owner, with a Leonberger x Bernese Mountain Dog named Leona, a Domestic Shorthair named Binx, and a Maine Coon cross named Smudge!
